Nathan Mullins creates small- to medium-scale oil paintings that ride the edge between naturalism and abstraction, using  gestural mark-making with a focus on color and light in the vein of Fairfield Porter. The subject matter of his paintings range from scenes of domesticity, couples making love, landscapes, baseball players, and still lifes, all created and unified by his specific handling of paint and mark making.   Mullins earned his BFA from the University of Southern Mississippi and an MFA from American University. He has built an active exhibition history featured in New American Paintings and reviewed by The Washington Post. Mullins currently lives in Petal, Mississippi, and teaches art at the University of Southern Mississippi.
