Auxier Kline is pleased to announce Line Out, the gallery's fourth solo exhibition featuring a survey of new paintings and works on paper created by the Brooklyn based artist Logan T. Sibrel.  

The exhibition takes its title literally and metaphorically.  A “line out” in audio terminology, is an output that sends a signal from an electronic device to an external amplifier or speaker at a fixed volume.  It transmits without adjusting or interpreting the signal or volume.  For Sibrel, the term becomes a way of thinking about the act of painting, and the painter, as a steady, analog conduit for “the noise.”  In another sense, to "line out” can also mean to cross something out or remove it.  Sibrel’s paintings similarly operate as acts of selection and editing, isolating fragments from a larger stream of information and translating them into still images.  

Sibrel blurs the line between subject and object, treating still life and portraiture as almost interchangeable and often using objects as proxies for human figures. The works in Line Out move between still life, portraiture, paused television and film, music performance, and audio equipment. Some begin with images frozen on a screen at the moment Sibrel stepped away to get a glass of water or a snack; others depict instruments, performers, and the equipment through which sound is recorded or transmitted. Across these varied subjects runs a shared interest in attempted communication, or general chatter, with the artist being the sorter of a metaphorical junk heap.
