Nate Ethier

Sunlight Makes Me Clean

March 5th - April 2nd, 2022

Opening March 5th, 2022, 5-7pm

Auxier Kline is pleased to present a solo exhibition by Nate Ethier, Sunlight Makes Me Clean featuring a survey of paintings and works on paper created by the New York based artist between the years 2020-2022.

Drawing on traditions of formal and pop abstraction, Nate Ethier’s flamboyant geometric abstractions celebrate both the bucolic and the post-industrial world. The exchange of interchangeable modular structures through synchronicity and symmetry is the bedrock of the work, while rock and roll, the rolling surf, and poetry whisper in the background. Creating compositions that allow for the optical emphasis to alternate and reverberate with unequivocal intensity and grace, the mechanics of Ethier’s paintings function as perpetual, philosophical, and visual motion machines.

Nate Ethier was born in Providence, Rhode Island in 1977. He earned his MFA from Boston University College of Fine Arts in 2004, and his BA from Goddard College in 2000. His work has been presented in solo exhibitions, as well as group exhibitions at institutions and galleries including most recently LMAKgallery, New York, NY, Danese/Corey, New York, NY,  Nancy Margolis Gallery, New York, NY,”, Morgan Lehman Gallery, New York, NY; Morris & Warren Gallery, New York, NY; Geoffrey Young Gallery, Barrington, Mass; and Georgia Southern University, Statesboro, GA. He is a recent recipient of a Sharpe-Walentas Studio Program Award 2014-2015 and a Rema Hort Foundation Emerging Artist Grant Nomination. Ethier currently lives in New York City, New York.
