Auxier Kline is pleased to present our second solo exhibition by Logan T. Sibrel, I’ll Be There, featuring a survey of paintings and works on paper created by the Brooklyn based artist over the past two years.

I’ll Be There continues Sibrel’s overarching theme of intimacy as experienced from a queer perspective. The subjects of these paintings are culled from an archive of personal photographs and sketches capturing moments of significance for the artist.

“Regarding my subjects—I’m compelled to assert myself through various visual iterations until I reach some sense of clarity, then I move along. This has always served me well in terms of being able to keep making work, and it has the added benefit of occasionally making my personal life a little easier to navigate.”

These new works offer glimpses into the artist’s psyche; depicting the trajectory of a romantic relationship unfolding in moments of reprieve; hotel rooms and adventures shared in various foreign cities, still lifes of shared domesticity, self portraits and portraits of his partner, marking and reflecting time.  Sibrel captures moments of pleasure in the summer sun, cigarettes smoked with friends by a pool, and stolen cat naps. These references, edited, reconstructed, and repeated by the artist’s hand in paint and pencil, are spliced together with snippets of text derived from song lyrics, literature, and eavesdropped conversations to create a visual diary that reflects a full range of emotional responses to Sibrel’s connection to these people, places, and objects.
